Why FTP?

FTP moves files in and out of directories on web servers, just like Windows Explorer moves files around PCs and mapped drives.  With FTP, you can move files onto the webservers, which are then delivered to the world.  Without FTP, you are dead on the web.

Free FTP program.  When you setup hosting at Montpelier Websites, you will use FTP to move web files from your computer to your web domain.  By naming a file index.htm, it becomes the default landing page.  In turn, the directory is connected to the www via the hosting plan.  That is what the hosting plan is all about.  It gives you an FTP door to a web directory, then ties your domain name to that directory.  It is simple when you understand it, but no end of confusion is created among the various value added carriers you have been dealing with.  Now, you are dealing with raw web.  Simpler, easier to make it do exactly what you want.

    What is AJAX Programming?
    AJAX is a special program for updating parts of a webpage. The benefit is that tiny parts of a web page can display changes without re-displaying the parts of the page that have not changed. Re-display forces the internet to carry mountains of data it already has delivered. AJAX lets the internet say: "Update this one part of the webpage, and leave everything else still."
